Ask for the sizes you need
Clothes are the hardest gift to get right. Add the current size and the next size up, with the season in the note: "6-9 months, winter".
If you prefer no clothes, add the things you do need and say so in your message.
Group the list by stage
- Feeding: bottles, a steriliser, bibs, muslins, a high chair for later.
- Sleep: sleep sacks, sheets, a night light, a baby monitor.
- Bath: towels with a hood, a bath mat, a small baby bath.
- Travel: a changing bag, a car seat mirror, a compact stroller.
- Everyday: nappies in the current size, wipes, a laundry basket, a play mat.
Let people buy the boring things
Nappies, wipes and muslins are the gifts parents use most. Add them without apology. A guest who is unsure will choose a useful gift over a decorative one.
Share it before the shower
Send the link with the shower invitation or in the message where people ask what you need. Relatives who live far away can use the same link and reserve from another country; each gift keeps its own currency.
Leave room for later
You will learn what your baby likes in the first month. Keep the list and add gifts as you need them. You can also remove gifts that no longer fit your plan.
