Go room by room
- Kitchen: knives, mixing bowls, a kettle, tea towels, storage jars, a good tin opener.
- Living room: a lamp, a throw, cushion covers, a doorstop, a small side table.
- Bedroom: bedding in the right size, hangers, a laundry basket, a mirror.
- Bathroom: towels, a bath mat, a shower caddy, a small bin.
- First week: an extension lead, spare bulbs, cleaning supplies, a basic tool kit, salt and pepper.
Add the detail that makes it buyable
Say the size, colour and model. "Queen duvet cover, oatmeal" is easier to buy than "bedding". If you paste a shop link, the name, photo and price can fill in. Add a note for anything the photo does not show.
Let one person take the big gift
SortGift does not split a price between several people. If friends want to share a larger present, add it once and let them agree among themselves before one person reserves it. The list shows that the gift is taken, so nobody buys it twice.
Send it at the right time
Send the link when people ask what you need, or about two weeks before a housewarming.
A short message works: "We are in. Here is a list of things for the flat if you would like to bring something. Really, coming is enough."
Keep it short
A housewarming list of 10 to 15 gifts is plenty. Add the things you will use in the first month, then stop. You can add more later.
